Soldier Field Hosts 3rd Annual Spring Egg-stravaganza Presented by Dominicks
Saturday, April 8, 8 a.m. – 12: 30 p.m.

Soldier Field Hosts 3rd Annual Spring Egg-stravaganza Presented by Dominicks

The new Soldier Field Stadium is celebrating the beginning of spring with its 3rd Annual Spring Egg-Stravaganza presented by Dominick’s, the largest free candy grab in Chicago, Saturday, April 8. The half-day of events start at 8 a.m. and end at approximately 12:30 p.m.

"Soldier Field was updated to be an entertainment venue for Chicago, so this springtime event is a perfect opportunity for Chicagoans to enjoy the stadium and parklands," said Timothy J. Mitchell, the general superintendent of the Chicago Park District. "It’s also a unique opportunity for young Chicagoans to run across the football field. The Egg-Stravaganza at Soldier Field has become one of the stadium’s most popular family events."

Children, 10 years old and younger, are invited to participate in the third annual candy grab on the stadium field. The fun will be broadcast on the stadium’s two super-sized 23’ X 82’ video boards for parents to cheer from the sidelines.

Before the candy grab, children will have the opportunity to have brunch with the Easter Bunny and take photos in the Cadillac Club at Soldier Field from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Admission for children 10 and younger is $10 and admission for others is $15. Please reserve your space by calling 312.235.7162. Reservations will be taken until the brunch is full or until Friday, April 7.

Radio Disney AM 1300 will be on hand to entertain the public with an interactive show from 9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the South Courtyard.

New on the roster this year is the opportunity for children to help paint a 12-foot customized mural of the city’s skyline in the South Courtyard. The completed mural commemorating this year’s event will put on temporary display at the stadium.

The candy grab will begin following the Radio Disney show at 10:30am with the first group of children.

In addition, the first 3,000 children who participate in the candy grab will be given a commemorative wooden egg designed by a student at Josiah L. Pickard Elementary School, 2301 West 21st Place. The student will be selected from a contest against fellow students to have his or her design duplicated on this year’s commemorative egg.

Approximately 4,000 adults and children of all ages attended the 2005 Spring Egg-Stravaganza where families enjoyed a morning filled with a variety of events.

The year’s event is presented by Dominick’s and M&M’S® is donating all of the candy. Dominick’s and M&M’S® have joined together to give guests the opportunity to donate a candy basket to the Chicago Greater Food Depository booth at the event. Visit the M&M’S® Easter Holiday Station to donate a basket or makes a cash donation. All guests that visit the M&M’S® Easter Holiday Station will be given a "Bright Ideas Cook Book", a value of $25.

Guests are asked to park in Waldron Garage and enter the stadium on the south end at Gate O. For more information call 312.235.7000 or visit www.soldierfield.net

City Escapes: Easy Day Trips to Cook County Forest Preserves
Apr 13, 2006 12:15 pm - 01:15 pm

Chicagoans have the unique opportunity to enjoy the natural land in the Cook County Forest Preserves. These hidden wonders were created for nearby recreation, relaxation and spiritual renewal. In past decades, the public flocked each weekend to these preserves via streetcars. But as automobiles gained popularity, public transit to these preserves slowly disappeared. Today most city residents don't know where these 68,000 acres of woodland are located, how to get there or what to do once they arrive. Join Friends of the Parks, the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation, and Friends of the Forest Preserves as we highlight 10 Cook County Forest Preserves accessible by public transportation, helping to make it easy for all to enjoy nature even without a car.

Artists at Work Forum: Collecting Chicago
Thursday, April 20, 6:00 pm
Chicago Cultural Center -- 1st Floor Garland

Join innovative and prominent art collectors in a lively discussion about how they interact with artists and how their passion has evolved. Moderated by Greg Cameron, Deputy Director for the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Abe Tomás Hughes II, Diana Girardi Karnas, Patric McCoy, Daniel T. Parker, and June Spiezer will discuss the dynamic between collectors, artists and the art community. Bring your questions as well. Admission is free and open to the public.

Panelists

Abe Tomás Hughes II and his wife Diana Girardi Karnas are members of the Museum of Contemporary Art, where Hughes serves on the Board of Trustees.

Patric McCoy, President of Diasporal Rhythms, an organization of African American art collectors in Chicago, has collected more than 400 paintings, drawings, sculptures, collages, and assemblages of African American art. He writes, "...In our collecting, we give special attention to the Chicago artists. We attend their shows; we invite them to our homes; we visit their homes and studios; we work together on common projects; we introduce them to other collectors and galleries; and we write about them and we collect their original works. As a result, the atmosphere in the African American art community in Chicago is now electric."

Daniel Texidor Parker, Professor Emeritus in African American Studies at Olive-Harvey College, published "African Art: The Diaspora and Beyond" in 2005 and has organized exhibitions, tours and other events with many of the artists he's collected.

June Spiezer, with her husband Francis, amassed a comprehensive collection of Chicago art which they recently bequeathed to the Rockford Art Musuem in an innovative format.

Artists at Work Forums are made possible through the generosity of the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. The next Artists at Work Forum will be in Fall.

Art Chicago in the Park 2006 will return to its spectacular downtown location at Butler Field on Chicago's beautiful lakefront. The fair will take place from April 28 - May 1, in a gracious tent structure across from the Art Institute of Chicago and adjacent to the world famous Millennium Park. Last year's pavilion-in-the-park made a captivating impact on the ever-changing urban landscape of downtown Chicago and was met with unanimous approval and accolades.

Plans for this year's exposition will offer visitors and the participating dealers an even greater setting than last year. The double tent structure, approximately 125,000 square feet, will include added dining amenities and designated facilities for lectures, events, and special exhibitions. 2006 will mark the 14th year for Thomas Blackman Associates' Art Chicago and this year promises to be a stellar event. Many returning galleries will be present as well as those participating for the first time. As in 2005, International invitational and Stray Show dealers will be exhibiting under the same roof, offering a diverse and exciting format for all.

"LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN" TO HIT THE ROAD IN MAY FOR
A WEEK OF SHOWS IN CHICAGO

NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" is taking its show on the road. The top-rated, critically praised late night show will travel to Chicago to broadcast for the week of May 9-12 (NBC, 12:35 - 1:35 a.m. ET).

"Late Night" will broadcast from Chicago's legendary Chicago Theater. Erected in 1921, the classic vaudeville venue has hosted generations of luminaries from Bob Hope, Duke Ellington and Jack Benny to Aretha Franklin, Prince and Beck.

Said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment, "It's always exciting to take the Conan show on the road -- for viewers, for the staff and crew, and especially for the fans who will be in the Chicago Theater audience each night. We can't wait."

Though based in New York, "Late Night" has deep Chicago roots, from the numerous writers on the show who have honed their craft in Chicago at the famed Second City and Improv Olympic theaters to the show's recurring "live" Central Time Zone New Years Eve Countdown.

"Late Night" went to Los Angeles in 1999 and did an enormously popular run in Toronto, Ontario Canada in 2003. The show has also shot remotes all over the world, from Ireland, Amsterdam, Sydney and India to the show's most recent and most talked-about trip Conan's recent visit to Finland, which yielded a unique and highly rated hour-long special March 10.

Guests and other details for the weeklong Chicago trip will be announced at a later date. Conan will give viewers ticket information when the show resumes first-run episodes March 28.

"Late Night with Conan O'Brien" is from NBC Studios in association with Broadway Video. Lorne Michaels and Jeff Ross are the executive producers. Mike Sweeney is head writer.
