Starbucks Saturday Morning Gallery Tour
Meet for coffee at the River North Gallery District's Starbucks at 750 N. Franklin and join the weekly complimentary gallery tours, led by local experts.
Every Saturday morning, starting at 11:00 AM – a different gallery owner or director will meet you at Starbucks Coffee and guide you through four River North Galleries. The tour lasts until about 12:30 pm. Tours do not take place on major holiday weekends. Please check our website for upcoming tour schedules.

Tonight's program includes a full evening of talks, workshops, fahion show, performances and video screenings. Come early to catch dinner. The Group Group Show will also be open all night.
Urban Gardening and Exterior Decorating (UGED)
How can urban environments become areas for personal and ideological transformations? How can artists create charged public space? In this show we expose the dynamics and aesthetics of street art and recent guerrilla communication. We consider public space in urban environments as a forum for change, and explore, visually, ways of altering and reclaiming our surroundings. At the opening we complement the UGED show with a special DIY Publishing workshop, Instant Printing silk screening, live drawing/illustrating duels and more. Complementary issues of the new Select 9 Agit Prop Poster Magazine will be given away as well as Urban Gardening Kits made of cut outs, stickers, stencils and other ephemera created by this years selected participants.
Exhibition Hours are Saturday and Sundays noon to 5pm.

WHO:
Toys "R" Us Schaumburg invites Chicago Cubs fans to step up to the plate by attending special autograph signing appearances with Jacque Jones. One of the team’s newest additions, Jones also played on the US Olympic Baseball team in 1996.
WHAT:
The first 225 shoppers who spend $30 or more in the MLB feature shop at Toys "R" Us Schaumburg between March 16 and April 27 will receive a ticket to meet Jacque Jones.*
Mr. Jones will autograph either an official baseball or player photograph for ticket holders. No other memorabilia will be signed.
From action figures and baseball cards to apparel and baseball gloves, the Major League Baseball Shops at Toys "R" Us stores feature everything needed to get on deck for the upcoming baseball season. Opening Friday, May 5, 6pm - 11pm - The Unveiling of our New Rough:Space Gallery with Converging Histories
Exhibition runs May 5th - June 16th 2006. Featuring new media work by Miroslaw Rogala and Rob Mazurek. Two of Chicago's outstanding media artists inaugurate the unveiling of our new contemporary art galleries at the DANK Museum. This rough hewn space provides the functional backdrop of a fine art gallery within the German Cultural Center. Rough:Space Gallery has been created out of the necessity of providing a relevant environment for the presentation of contemporary art with a German/European background. Look forward to a revolving series of exhibitions featuring some of the brightest stars (and young unknowns) in today's fast paced contemporary art world.
Miroslaw Rogala
Miroslaw Rogala creates work on the cusp of technology and fine art. His ever evolving tools have led him into the 21st century through the use of video, photography, computer graphics, digital printmaking, interactive media design and installations. Rogala is an internationally-recognized Polish-American contemporary interactive multi-media artist whose works have been presented in collections and exhibitions in 42 countries. He is a pioneering artist awarded a Ph.D in Interactive Art (from the University of Wales) whose work spans the past 30 years of new media, advanced technologies, and interactive design. A Chicago born Polish American currently residing in Brasil (but never tied to any geographic local) his work has evolved from sound based structures to visual media and on into digital printing and interactive media works. He recently received a residency for the Abbeye Royale de Fontevraud in France as well as premiering his latest music project the Exploding Star Orchestra at the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago's Millenium Park last August. We all know that genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent Presentation. That’s the idea behind AIGA Chicago’s first annual Design Slam. Here’s your chance to let your thoughts fly on one of today’s biggest questions for our members:
How does design impact our culture?
To qualify to participate, we’re looking for your 60-second presented response. Show us. Tell us. Wow us. Sell us. Straight or twisted. Written, memorized or mimed. Designed and visualized, put to music, put to death - any way you want to put it is up to you. The idea is to rock the house with your profundity.
Send your response, or description of your presentation, to our judging panel at info@aigachicago.org, subject: SLAM by April 15, 2006. We will select the best 20 entries based on originality, relevance to the membership and our judges warped sense of fun. Judges decisions are final. Each participant will be given exactly 60 seconds to present their Slam response. Then the hook comes out, the microphone power goes off. It’s that raw, er, simple.
Would you rather be the slamee than the slammer, come on out and cheer on your colleagues to their 60 seconds of infamy. Schmooze. Relax. Carouse. You know, like designers.
This event will be modeled after the National Conference’s 20/20 Series where 20 designers each get 60 seconds to relay a message (totaling 20 minutes of presentations). We will define a theme and allow a limited number of members to sign up to present. This event will be an excellent opportunity to relax and socialize with members of the community.

Seinfeld now sets his sights on performing his material across the country in 2006.
His tour will visit Chicago on Saturday, May 20 at 7 & 10pm.

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project celebrates National Tap Dance Day with four performances at Vittum Theater, 1012 N. Noble. The performances will include live music by the Jeremy Kahn Trio and a celebration, complete with birthday cake, for Bill "Bojangle" Robinson at each intermission. Tonight's 8pm performance features Jimmy Payne Jr.'s Rhythm of Life and new work by Perfect Timing and the Time Steppers.
