TOYS "R" US SCHAUMBURG BATTING 1,000 WITH APPEARANCE BY JACQUE JONES
WHO:
Toys "R" Us Schaumburg invites Chicago Cubs fans to step up to the plate by attending special autograph signing appearances with Jacque Jones. One of the team’s newest additions, Jones also played on the US Olympic Baseball team in 1996.
WHAT:
The first 225 shoppers who spend $30 or more in the MLB feature shop at Toys "R" Us Schaumburg between March 16 and April 27 will receive a ticket to meet Jacque Jones.*
Mr. Jones will autograph either an official baseball or player photograph for ticket holders. No other memorabilia will be signed.
From action figures and baseball cards to apparel and baseball gloves, the Major League Baseball Shops at Toys "R" Us stores feature everything needed to get on deck for the upcoming baseball season. Even the youngest sluggers in training can hit it out of the ballpark with a selection of MLB licensed T-Ball sets, baseball bats, and Rawlings official baseballs.

Last year's pavilion-in-the-park made a captivating impact on the ever-changing urban landscape of downtown Chicago and was met with unanimous approval and accolades.
Plans for this year's exposition will offer visitors and the participating dealers an even greater setting than last year. The double tent structure, approximately 125,000 square feet, will include added dining amenities and designated facilities for lectures, events, and special exhibitions. 2006 will mark the 14th year for Thomas Blackman Associates' Art Chicago and this year promises to be a stellar event. Many returning galleries will be present as well as those participating for the first time. As in 2005, International invitational and Stray Show dealers will be exhibiting under the same roof, offering a diverse and exciting format for all.

Every Saturday morning, starting at 11:00 AM – a different gallery owner or director will meet you at Starbucks Coffee and guide you through four River North Galleries. Exhibition runs May 5th - June 16th 2006. Featuring new media work by Miroslaw Rogala and Rob Mazurek. Two of Chicago's outstanding media artists inaugurate the unveiling of our new contemporary art galleries at the DANK Museum. This rough hewn space provides the functional backdrop of a fine art gallery within the German Cultural Center. Rough:Space Gallery has been created out of the necessity of providing a relevant environment for the presentation of contemporary art with a German/European background. Look forward to a revolving series of exhibitions featuring some of the brightest stars (and young unknowns) in today's fast paced contemporary art world.
Miroslaw Rogala
Miroslaw Rogala creates work on the cusp of technology and fine art. His ever evolving tools have led him into the 21st century through the use of video, photography, computer graphics, digital printmaking, interactive media design and installations. Rogala is an internationally-recognized Polish-American contemporary interactive multi-media artist whose works have been presented in collections and exhibitions in 42 countries. He is a pioneering artist awarded a Ph.D in Interactive Art (from the University of Wales) whose work spans the past 30 years of new media, advanced technologies, and interactive design. Rob Mazurek
Rob Mazurek is a cross cultural media artist. A Chicago born Polish American currently residing in Brasil (but never tied to any geographic local) his work has evolved from sound based structures to visual media and on into digital printing and interactive media works. He recently received a residency for the Abbeye Royale de Fontevraud in France as well as premiering his latest music project the Exploding Star Orchestra at the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago's Millenium Park last August. Tour de Stooges

NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" is taking its show on the road. The top-rated, critically praised late night show will travel to Chicago to broadcast for the week of May 9-12 (NBC, 12:35 - 1:35 a.m. ET).
"Late Night" will broadcast from Chicago's legendary Chicago Theater. Erected in 1921, the classic vaudeville venue has hosted generations of luminaries from Bob Hope, Duke Ellington and Jack Benny to Aretha Franklin, Prince and Beck.
Said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment, "It's always exciting to take the Conan show on the road -- for viewers, for the staff and crew, and especially for the fans who will be in the Chicago Theater audience each night. We can't wait."
Though based in New York, "Late Night" has deep Chicago roots, from the numerous writers on the show who have honed their craft in Chicago at the famed Second City and Improv Olympic theaters to the show's recurring "live" Central Time Zone New Years Eve Countdown.
"Late Night" went to Los Angeles in 1999 and did an enormously popular run in Toronto, Ontario Canada in 2003. The show has also shot remotes all over the world, from Ireland, Amsterdam, Sydney and India to the show's most recent and most talked-about trip Conan's recent visit to Finland, which yielded a unique and highly rated hour-long special March 10.
Guests and other details for the weeklong Chicago trip will be announced at a later date. Conan will give viewers ticket information when the show resumes first-run episodes March 28.

We all know that genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent Presentation. That’s the idea behind AIGA Chicago’s first annual Design Slam. Here’s your chance to let your thoughts fly on one of today’s biggest questions for our members:
How does design impact our culture?
To qualify to participate, we’re looking for your 60-second presented response. Show us. Tell us. Wow us. Sell us. Straight or twisted. Written, memorized or mimed. Designed and visualized, put to music, put to death - any way you want to put it is up to you. The idea is to rock the house with your profundity.
Send your response, or description of your presentation, to our judging panel at info@aigachicago.org, subject: SLAM by April 15, 2006. We will select the best 20 entries based on originality, relevance to the membership and our judges warped sense of fun. Judges decisions are final. Each participant will be given exactly 60 seconds to present their Slam response. Then the hook comes out, the microphone power goes off. It’s that raw, er, simple.
Would you rather be the slamee than the slammer, come on out and cheer on your colleagues to their 60 seconds of infamy. Schmooze. Relax. Carouse. You know, like designers.
This event will be modeled after the National Conference’s 20/20 Series where 20 designers each get 60 seconds to relay a message (totaling 20 minutes of presentations). We will define a theme and allow a limited number of members to sign up to present. This event will be an excellent opportunity to relax and socialize with members of the community.
