Fresh Talent
Speaker: Strange Attractors

Ryan Pescatore Frisk and Catelijne van Middelkoop are the founding partners of Strange Attractors Design, an international studio specializing in typography and brand communication for print, motion and interactive media. They have collaborated with a range of clients (FSI Fontshop International, Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo Lab, Studio Dumbar, Museum Boijmans) to produce design solutions and products which represent distinct messages and experiences. Their work has received numerous awards, most recently ID Magazine’s ID Forty 2006. Strange Attractors’ design has been featured in many publications and exibitions worldwide (ADC Global, Type Directors Club).

Along with their professional work, the studio also initiates autonomous projects, including Broadcasting Tongues, a study of graphic dialects, and gives workshops and lectures worldwide. They are judges for ADC Young Guns 5 and will be teaching a course called ‘Design in Motion’ for VIDE, The Hague, this summer.

Pescatore Frisk has an MA in Type Design from the The Royal Academy of Art, an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from The Savannah College of Art and Design. Van Middelkoop is on the national board of directors of the BNO (Association of Dutch Designers), and has an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, a Degree in Graphic & Typographic Design from The Royal Academy of Art and a propaedeuse in Art History and Archeology from The University of Amsterdam.

Fresh Talent puts the spotlight on unexpected, emerging design talent. Firms with unique, sometimes quirky, occasionally irreverent, and often brilliant perspectives—talent representing the future of our profession.
